For me, my audience is largely those back home. To give them some insight into what I’m doing in Armagh and to inspire future students to want to study here. The majority of the things I learned while in here in Armagh I had no idea of back home, the troubles, the murals and the segregation specifically. Ireland was a much darker place than I pictured. But aside from the feuding there’s still so much beauty here, and although America is a beautiful place as well it’s always different going somewhere else and experiencing foreign beauty.
The people of Ireland already know everything I’m writing about because they’ve been living it. I think the only thing I could say that would be of any interest to them would be the American opinions of foreign things, that might be entertaining to them. Other than that I think my work applies largely to those outside of Ireland.
The audience impacts my writing slightly. I am not prone to editing what I think and with something as free as a blog there’s even less filtering. Sure I stay pretty upbeat with everything I see but that’s just because this place is wonderful, and the positives outweigh the negatives substantially. I would say I keep this blog a little cleaner than I would a strictly personal one, but I can’t complain about that either. I really should be more of a lady. 🙂
