I miss American food. And salt. And pizza. Armagh is pretty cool, but the fact that no food establishments stay open later than 8p.m. is very inconvenient.
Thinking about it I am sure it’s a good thing people can’t access fast food so late at night, good for your overall health and what not. But when it’s 9 p.m. on a Saturday, you just got done riding a bus for five hours, all you really want is a greasy cheeseburger.
My first week or so in Armagh I couldn’t find a decent meal that I liked, everything was bland and I ate a ton of peanut butter sandwiches. But, after getting acclimated I learned to just buy whatever looked good at the grocery store and work with it. The restaurants in the area are good, but they were all just little café’s, and after about four different ham sandwiches I was sick of them.
Then I discovered a gem that was right underneath my nose! Rumors Café is a hop, skip and a jump away from the Amma center where we studied and everyday they have a new special readily made. I’ve eaten there three times now and it has been delicious each time. There’s no waiting, and they have some good desserts. Both plusses in my book.
Overall I wouldn’t give up this experience for the world, but I miss my family. I said earlier in the week that if I could bring my whole family here and live I would. But sadly farms are not that easily transported. Sigh.
