I can’t say I’m surprised about the festival being full of talented individuals, but I also am having a hard time putting it into words. I’ve never been to anything like this. I’ve only been to the kind of festivals full of blaring music and drunken, sloppy young adults. Doesn’t really compare.
Its been really amazing meeting the authors and poets that are known by so many! They are so humble and it is such a grand feeling seeing this. I would have never had this opportunity if it weren’t for this program. I’m feeling very blessed and lucky.
I’m taking the crime fiction writing workshop. As bad as it may sound, I’m obsessed with reading about murder. I will mention I absolutely prefer the fiction to the non fiction though. I have to write a 500 word piece about a protagonist (someone in my life I dislike) catching an antagonist (someone in my life I admire) stealing someone’s purse from the back of a chair at a cafe. The plot is mine to mold however I please. This wont be too difficult for me I’m sure, but I sense myself already struggling with making someone I dislike the “good guy” and someone I admire the “bad guy”.
I guess that’s why its called fiction!
Because my mom, who will be the antagonist, would never steal a purse. Unless maybe if it was an absolutely fabulous one…
