An Ugly, American Appropriation

Today, I will tell you the story of Belfast.

01

Once upon a time, there was a city named Belfast and through it ran a wall.

02

On either side of the wall extended fields of community, poverty, and decay, each staked out by two different Christian sects with slightly different rules and regulations on respecting God and a massive history of violence, hatred, and spite.

03

With the walls, despite still seeing the brims of homes above the fenceline, these two communities rarely engaged, rarely mingled, and rarely infringed upon one another. For all intents and purposes, the people, the homes, and the life on the opposite side of the wall was completely alien.

04

And the people were content.

And all the rest of the world was left to do was weep for the loss of so much possibility.
